Hell Pizza - Reading Challenge
This video was requested through Dinniss Communications via Hell Pizza.
Hell Pizza runs a program encouraging children to read, called the Hell Reading Challenge. This year, they wanted a video that could be used by teachers and librarians to help the program run more smoothly and gain some exposure. It was also necessary for the video to be capable of being retrofitted for social media purposes.
Evan’s Bay Intermediate School agreed to have us come and film and interview their students for the purposes of the video. They had been involved with the reading challenge for a number of years so it was fitting that the video was centered around them as an example. We were fortunate to have an enthusiastic and cooperative group of young people, as well as a senior teacher who helped facilitate the shoot.
The focus for me was to capture the excitement around this challenge, an feeling that reading is not often associated with. By asking silly questions and getting them to tell us the ways the challenge had affected them in a casual setting, we were able to make the kids feel comfortable in front of the camera (which is a challenge in and of itself) and draw out some real golden moments.
